The Centre came into effect on November 2017 following its approval by the UDBS Board on its 39th Meeting held on 30th Sep 2017 and per the UDSM Guidelines for Establishing Research Centers of Excellences 2013. The center is single discipline focus. Future engagement of the research center shall be interdisciplinary & multidisciplinary. The collaborates with researchers from other departments from the UDBS as well as outside UDBS namely Departments of Accounting, Marketing and General Management and Department of Economics and Economic Law in the School of Law respectively. The collaboration shall enhance research provision in the center.
Our major activities are research is in the area of banking and financial services and provision of information related to banking and finance in Tanzania and the East African region. The Center works closely with the Department of Finance to ensure that it complements its functions as related to the provision of research and teaching in the area of banking and financial services.
The Center seeks to establish strategic partnerships with the Bank of Tanzania, Tanzania Bankers Association, Tanzania Institute of Bankers, Tanzania Insurance Regulatory Authority, and Tanzania Social Security Authority to start with, to leverage its expertise and contribute to the policy aspects in the management of financial services industry. We are looking forward also link with various Centers within and outside the University and forge partnership with other Centers for Banking Studies worldwide to share knowledge and experiences.
The Center operate within the University of Dar es Salaam campus and follows the UDSM operational guidelines.
